so i was playing cod and i went to quit to get the new maps off the store but, when i quit the xmb wasnt there...... i had to restart the ps3 but when i did it came up with a message saying the hard disk databse had to be rebuilt and there was no way around it so i hit ok... the only things that seem to have happened is that all my messages have gone along with my playlist.. the videos have all the same date and time and have moved around...
thank god the saves are fine

A lot of data is half-protected, and the PS3 will try it's best to save all the important shiznit upon any reformatting because of its awesomeness.
Good thing you got what you want on there

I just had a system restore but it affected nothing and gave me 3 and a half gig!
I think it may have deleted that back data that isn't properly deleted, which is why I think not all memory is retrieved after deleting something.
But I'm happy with it.
Don't know what caused it.
